Penguide is an AI assistant designed to help your child advance their reading and learning from home. Designed as a part of a weeklong live brief in collaboration with DCA, the brief asked me to design a physical product for an existing brand that leverages the power and opportunities of AI and machine learning in a way that is relevant to the brand and their customer base.

Through my research I found that 1/4 of UK children had not reached the expected level of reading by the age of 11. (UK Gov. 2022) I discovered that parents also wanted help more, with 85% saying they want to play an active role in their child’s education. (ParentKind 2023) With this, Penguide was born.

The device connects to a parent's phone, and when the child is ready to read, you simply lower its beak, and it begins listening. As the child reads aloud, the device will process speech and highlight where they excelled and areas for improvement. It will use these areas to generate worksheets and suggest stories to help boost your child's reading.
